Grape Tomatoes

grape tomatoAlthough we grow a full line of tomatoes, Alderman Farms offer a beautiful Grape Tomatoe product, grown conventionally and organically in our soils. Just a few years ago, grape tomatoes were largely an unknown fruit. They seemed to hit the marketplace by storm, originally seen as a novelty, offered only by specialty food stores.

People found these cherry sized, egg-shaped fruit, to be sweeter and tastier than regular cherry tomatoes and quickly fell in love with these tiny, tasty treats. Grape tomatoes are a class of tomatoes originally believed to be of Southeast Asian origin, shaped similarly to the oblong plum tomatoes but having the small size and sweetness of cherry tomatoes. Introduced to the worldwide market in the 1990s, they have gained substantial popularity, due at least in part to their higher sugar content compared to regular tomatoes, and due to their smaller, bite-sized shape.

In addition to their sweetness, grape tomatoes have a firm texture, and less juice but low in calories and high in antioxidants such as Vitamin C and lycopene. Grape tomatoes are great to snack on plain or use with your favorite vegetable dip. They are a great addition to garden salads or slicing them up and mixing them into antipastas. Being a little smaller than cherry tomatoes, it take more effort to fill a container for the marketplace, but as gardeners, we here at Alderman Farms give little thought to the extra time to harvest. The taste is well worth the effort! Alderman Farms' sweet and succulent Grape Tomatoes are selected for their bright, shiny skin and firm flesh. They are a wonderful addition to both our conventionally grown and organically grown gardens, ripe and ready to add to your culinary repertoire.

Our Grape Tomatoes are available from early November - end of May, and packed in a clam shell (12-1) or in 20-pound bulk, upon request.
